From Farm to Kitchen Counter

For 21 days this summer our family incubated chicken eggs on our kitchen counter.  Daddy was the least bit excited but when he saw the excitement in our children's eyes, he obliged to this special project.  After the ants died off in the ant farm, it seemed fitting to replace it with "Mimi's curlers" on the counter full of chicken eggs (it's about the same size as Mimi's hot rollers).  Miss Ruth, the sheep farmer, brought the eggs over.  Once I received instruction and the incubator was in full temperature and humidity, we prayed over the little lives inside the eggs.  About 10 days later, she came over to "light" the eggs--or basically to put a flashlight underneath the egg and view an "egg ultrasound".  We had to go into the laundry room where it was very dark to see the life growing inside of the eggs.  After Ruth lighted every egg, we disposed of 3 eggs that didn't develop.   Day 20:  The special day!  Chicks pipped (poke...
